This is my home church. I've been going here since before it was a cathedral. The church was started in 1905 and finished in 1908. It's been renovated about every 10 years since the 1950s. In my youth it was your classic long hallway with a huge back alter and solid oak front alter. When I was a teenager they pulled out a row of pews to make it easier to serve communion that now included wine. They also replaced the front alter with a more modern design. In the 2000s a major remodel occurred. The old rectory was torn down a new one went in with an elevator, an upstairs kitchen, and modern offices. The old basement is still much the same but with an upgraded youth area for classes and a clubhouse for the teens. The sanctuary was changed as well. The large back alter was removed and a smaller alter is used on the north side of the main alter. more seating was made available to the north and south of the alter, mostly used by the Choir. I believe the old pipe organ has been removed with a more modern unit installed in it's place.
I can't say that I love all the changes. The church of my youth is barely recognizable. However, the church is light and airy now even though all of the original stained glass is still in place. I guess that's worth quite a bit in a church going on it's second century.
There are ear pieces available for the hard of hearing.
If you'd like to see how the church looked before, there are pictures in the gathering area.
